New Alpine prototype has hydrogen-powered combustion engine

A Alpine unveiled the Alpine Alpenglow Hy4 on Friday, a prototype equipped with a hydrogen-powered combustion engine, which is a true "rolling laboratory".
This innovative model from Alpine was designed as a racing car, based on a carbon monocoque and a 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder engine that develops 340 hp. This engine is, as already mentioned, powered by hydrogen.
"As part of our active involvement in the decarbonization of motor sports, we see the hydrogen internal combustion engine as an extremely promising solution. We know that hydrogen will be an essential step in the decarbonization of the next generations of Endurance cars, and that it could also be for Formula 1 cars, especially through the switch to liquid storage for greater compactness and performance. The Alpine Alpenglow Hy4 perfectly illustrates this: a true technological laboratory for the development of the hydrogen engines of the future," said Bruno Famin, Vice President of Alpine Motorsports
The Alpine Alpenglow Hy4 will be seen on the track this Saturday, May 11, 2024, during the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps endurance race.
