The two-time world champion and winner of the two previous editions let the rear of his Yaris slide too much on a right-hand bend and ended up rolling over.
The accident had no physical consequences for the driver and navigator Jonne Halttunen.
The next driver on the track, the Swede Oliver Solberg (Skoda Fabia), leader of the WRC2 category, rolled over on the next bend and also dropped out.
On this section, the British Elfyn Evans (Toyota Yaris), the Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20) and the Japanese Takamoto Katsuta (Toyota Yaris) had already made mistakes and spun, which cost them a few seconds.
The Frenchman Sébastien Ogier (Toyota Yaris) is now the new leader, with a 3.4-second advantage over the Estonian Ott Tänak (Hyundai i20), with Takamoto Katsuta in third, at 15.7.
Seven more special stages are planned for today.
