In a note sent to Lusa news agency, the organization highlights that the event, which will take place between Friday and Sunday, May 03 and 05, offers in addition to the concerts at Teatro Cine de Gouveia "several free activities spread throughout the city, such as debates on music, recitals and concerts in historical places". The promoters consider that the 2024 edition presents a "luxury poster" with names such as Hedvig Mollestad Trio (Norway), Gryphon (England), Seven Impale (Norway), Imthemorning (Russia), Kadri Voorand & Mihkel Mälgand (Estonia), Ketil Bjørnstad (Norway), Gong (England), Syndone (Italy), David Cross Band (England) and Steve Hogarth (England). The organization emphasizes that Gouveia Art Rock is distinguished by its unique structure that allows spectators to experience progressive music in different ways. For the mayor of Gouveia, Luís Tadeu, "this festival is a cultural landmark for the city and a reason for great pride". The mayor considers that, over the years, Gouveia Art Rock has contributed to affirm Gouveia as a cultural destination of reference, attracting visitors from all over the country and the world. The festival is based on progressive rock, a musical style with influences from classical music and jazz, which emerged in the late 1960s. "Gouveia Art Rock is a festival for all audiences, from die-hard progressive rock fans to those who have never had any contact with the genre. The festival's diverse programme and welcoming atmosphere guarantee a unique experience for all visitors", says the organization. The Festival maintains the format of previous editions, with concerts at Teatro Cine de Gouveia, recently refurbished, and other cultural activities open to the community. The opening ceremony will take place on Friday, May 03, at 7:00 pm, at Paços do Concelho, with a solo by pianist Kadri Voorand (Estonia). There will be a debate at the Vergílio Ferreira Municipal Library, on Sunday, at 11:00 am, moderated by Thomas Olsson, (Lund University, Sweden), with the participation of musicians and critics. Also on Sunday, at 5:00 pm, a recital by Norwegian pianist Ketil Bjørnstad will take place at the Church of São Pedro. During the Festival there will also be the Record, Poster, Memorabilia and Merchandising Fair, in the Galleries of Teatro Cine, where there will also be a photographic exhibition alluding to Gouveia Art Rock and a sound installation, by the Sonoscopia Structure, called Phobos -- Dysfunctional Robotic Orchestra.
