The initiative, which will be presented on May 25, at 9:30 pm, at the Municipal Market, is also part of the celebrations of the Municipal Holiday, marked on May 23.
"The show is part of the celebrations of the 50 years of April, the celebrations of the Municipal Holiday and the tribute to a major figure in photojournalism, Alfredo Cunha, born in Celorico da Beira", the president of the Chamber, Carlos Ascensão, told Lusa.
The mayor emphasizes that the project also serves to reflect on the traditions, history and identity of the municipality.
"We will reflect on the past, analyze the present and idealize other possible futures. There is a combination of times that are important and that should always be remembered and revived considering their importance", stresses Carlos Ascensão.
The show is being created by the Oliveira & Bachtler Company and involves the participation of the community and local groups, such as the Senior University, in a universe of about fifty participants.
The project involves performance techniques in the fields of circus arts, physical theater and music.
The Mayor of Celorico da Beira highlighted to Lusa that the experience of the local authority in betting on a proximity policy has yielded good results. "We could bring a poster figure, but we know that people like to be involved. People need to feel respected and recognized", pointed out Carlos Ascensão.
The tribute of the Municipal Council of Celorico da Beira to the photojournalist Alfredo Cunha begins on May 23, on the Municipal Holiday.
"We are proud and it is a privilege for us to be able to count on Alfredo Cunha's availability to be here [in Celorico da Beira] on May 23", said the mayor.
On the occasion, the photojournalist's latest book, "April 25, 1974, Thursday", will be presented and a gallery of images about Celorico's rurality in the 1970s, captured by Alfredo Cunha's lens, will be inaugurated.
On the Municipal Holiday, Celorico da Beira commemorates the birthday of Sacadura Cabral, a Portuguese aviator from Celorico who, together with Gago Coutinho, made the first Air Crossing of the South Atlantic. This year also marks the centenary of Sacadura Cabral's disappearance in the North Sea when he was flying a seaplane from Holland to Portugal.
