"It is our history of the 25th of April framed in the thinking of Eduardo Lourenço", revealed to the Lusa agency the director and director of ACERT, José Rui Martins.
The show, which premieres at the Teatro Municipal da Guarda (TMG), was created for the closing of the programming of the centenary of the birth of the writer and essayist Eduardo Lourenço and is part of the programming of Guarda-Livros -- 2nd Book Fair, which takes place in the city from Friday to the 26th.
"25 de Abrilh A Divina Surpresa" was built from a story written by Pedro Leitão from Guarda.
The cast of the show is made up of actors from ACERT, from the district of Guarda and also by participants of a 'workshop' promoted by the group Aquilo Teatro.
It also features the participation of the Coral Group of Maçainhas, Guarda, and the Teatro Académico Gil Vicente.
According to José Rui Martins, the show tells a fictional story, but one that departs from the commonplace that characterizes the April Revolution.
The director points out that the story told is associated with the thinker Eduardo Lourenço who spoke about his land from a universalist perspective.
"Eduardo Lourenço allowed us to integrate his characters into his speeches. It is diluted in the ideas that the characters are transmitting", says José Rui Martins.
In the play, Eduardo Lourenço is not intended to "be a stereotyped character, even though his thinking and his life story can symbolically populate 'the dust of time'", highlights the synopsis of the show.
The director revealed that the story flows in a rural environment in a place called S. Pedro, in a space that is the country in another socio-political reality. There is an old man who has the habit of going to the cruises and who is seen as a sign of hope. A griffin makes this old man disappear and assumes himself as the savior of the country.
"He tells people that they don't need to dream, because he would dream with them. The whole narrative takes place between this population and this griffin that takes away the right to dream", describes José Rui Martins.
In this "universe of the fantastic", there is also a madman, whom the griffin calls a foreigner, who speaks the lyrics of Zeca Afonso's songs.
José Rui Martins emphasizes that music appears as a preponderant element in the show. There is also a forbidden object, which is the book, a girl, a postman and a carnation.
"We follow in S. Pedro the story of a people forbidden to dream and of a girl who, living the wounds of brutality and repression, seeks a way to replant the dream through the lesson learned from a forbidden book that came to her in an unexpected way", says the synopsis of the show that goes on stage at the Grande Auditório of TMG on the 17th and 18th, at 9:30 pm.
After the premiere, "25 de Abrilh A Divina Surpresa" will be presented on the 25th in Tondela, in the district of Viseu, and on the 31st, at the Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente, in Coimbra.
