Sampdoria have been experiencing chaotic moments in recent hours. Several members of the Italian club's squad suffered food poisoning before the derby with Spezia, counting towards the 34th round of the Italian Serie B.

The newspaper Il Secolo XIX, from Genoa, reveals that the team, which is coached by Andrea Pirlo, had lunch at a local restaurant specializing in fish dishes, where they would have suffered an intestinal infection caused by bacteria or parasites.

Fabio Depaoli was one of the most affected players. The player, who was supposed to start, was on the bench and the newspaper says that even so he had to run to the bathroom during the second half of the match.

The same source also reveals that other players were unable to appear at the stadium, such as Gerard Yepes, Daniele Ghilardi, Antonio Barreca and Andrea Conti, who were not even called up for the match.

Andrea Pirlo acknowledged at the press conference after the game, which ended in a 3-3 draw, that several members of his coaching staff, as well as many players, suffered from severe stomach problems.

"Before the game we had food poisoning and we knew we would have little strength. Up to 10 players were very sick. Depaoli was really bad," revealed the coach.
