Portuguese surfer Yolanda Hopkins was eliminated today in Gold Coast, Australia, the opening event of the Challenger Series (access circuit to the elite), by Canadian Erin Brooks, finishing the stage in ninth place.

In the second heat of the round of 16, the Algarve athlete, aged 25, collected a total of nine points, not enough to beat the 16-year-old Canadian, who scored 14.50.

This was the sixth time that Yolanda reached the ninth position in a stage of the Challenger Series circuit.

Before that, her compatriots Teresa Bonvalot and Kika Veselko finished the competition in 17th and 25th places, respectively, while, on the men's side, Frederico Morais came 33rd and Guilherme Ribeiro 65th.

The Gold Coast Pro is the first stage of the Challenger Series circuit, from the WSL, and takes place in Queensland, Australia, until May 4th.

The Challenger Series gives access to the main WSL circuit, and six stages are planned, one of them, the fifth and penultimate, at Praia de Ribeira D'Ilhas, in Ericeira, between September 29th and October 6th.
