Galtier explains controversial Messi substitution: "It seemed coherent to me..."
Coach admits that it wasn't easy to manage, not only the Argentinian, but also Mbappé and Neymar, at PSG.

Christophe Galtier gave an extensive interview to this Saturday's edition of the French newspaper L'Équipe, in which he addressed several topics, including, of course, his time in charge of Paris Saint-Germain, between 2022 and 2023.
One of the main difficulties he faced at the Parc des Princes was managing Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar, confessed the now Al-Duhail coach: "The three of them had to team up and play together. It was my obsession. I think we'll never see that again in France".
"They were very efficient, in terms of play and investment, but we lost Neymar [to injury]. Everyone forgot about that, too (...). The management is different. The discussions are held in the office, face to face", he continued.
"They are very private. With this extraordinary player profile, the smallest reaction, the slightest look, an inappropriate smile, a wink or a gesture takes on international, global proportions", he added.
To illustrate, the 57-year-old Frenchman recalled the opening match of the 2022/23 Champions League. The match against Juventus ended in a 2-1 victory, but the main highlight was the decision to substitute the Argentine international.
"I felt I had to take Léo Messi off at the end of the game, not to improve someone or something, but to protect him, from a physical point of view. The choice seemed coherent to me. After the game, everyone told me it was the first time Messi had been substituted in the Champions League", he said.
"That's when you realise and see confirmed that you're coaching players who are more than just players", concluded Christophe Galtier, who nevertheless stressed that the three forwards were "normal, simple, approachable and professional people".
