Lions' Day. Sporting pays tribute to people who died supporting the club
Data was celebrated in a small ceremony at the Centenário Square of the José Alvalade Stadium.

As in previous years, Sporting decided to pay tribute to those who died supporting the club, this Tuesday, at the Praça Centenário of the Estádio José Alvalade, on the so-called Dia do Leão.
The tradition has been taking place since 2011 and was attended by the president Frederico Varandas, "with a minute of silence and the laying of a wreath and a palm of flowers at the memorial".
"The tribute was repeated to José Gonçalves and Paulo Ferreira, who died as a result of the fall of the balcony of the old Estádio de Alvalade, and to Rui Mendes, who was fatally hit by a very light at Jamor", can be read in the club's statement.
Vasco Matos, a member of the Sporting social bodies, did not hesitate to emphasize the importance of May 7 for the club. “We are living happy moments, but we can never forget the past, these tragedies and pay tribute to these Sporting fans who gave so much for the club. We must continue to keep their memory alive and pay tribute to them”, said Vasco Matos to the club's media.
