Two Portuguese surfers advance to the 'round of 16' of the Sydney Surf Pro

Teresa Bonvalot and Yolanda Hopkins advance to the round of 16 of the Sydney Surf Pro, in Australia, due to their performances this past Friday. Francisca Veselko, the other Portuguese competitor, ended up losing and was eliminated.
Yolanda Hopkins defeated Australian Isabella Nichols, South African Sarah Baum and Japanese Amuro Tsuzuki. Teresa Bonvalot beat American Alyssa Spencer, Spanish Ariane Ochoa and Australian Rocie Smart.
Now, in the round of 16, they will have heats of two surfers. Bonvalot faces Erin Brooks in heat four and Hopkins will be in heat seven with Keala Tomoda-Bannert.
The tournament represents the second stage of the Challenger Series 2024. In this circuit, athletes fight to get a spot in the Championship Tour 2025.
