Yolanda Hopkins fifth at Sydney Surf Pro, Teresa Bonvalot ninth
Portuguese Yolanda Hopkins finished today the Sydney Surf Pro, second stage of the Challenger Series circuit, in fifth place, after being eliminated by Australian Isabella Nichols, in the quarter-finals, while Teresa Bonvalot was ninth.

Yolanda Hopkins, who had been ninth in the first competition, also in Australia, achieved the best result of her career on the circuit, which gives access to the world circuit.
With this classification, the result of her elimination against Nichols, who was demoted from the elite in the 'cut' in the middle of the season, Hopkins should be installed in the top 10 of the Challenger Series, the first five of which will access the 2025 world circuit.
The Algarve surfer scored 11.33 points (5.5 and 5.83), against the 13.6 of the Australian (7 and 6.60), in the fourth heat of the 'quarterfinals', after having overcome the Hawaiian Keala Tomoda-Bannert in the 'round of 16' (13.03 to 7).
At this stage, in the round of 16, the other Portuguese Olympic surfer, Teresa Bonvalot, 'fell', finishing the championship among the ninth-placed, after scoring 12.17 points (5.97 and 6.2), insufficient against the 14.67 of the Canadian Erin Brooks (8.67 and 6).
Francisca Veselko had already been eliminated from the competition, finishing in 25th position, while, in the men's competition, Frederico Morais did not go beyond 49th place and Guilherme Ribeiro 73rd.
The five Portuguese will compete again in the Challenge Series between July 1 and 8, in Ballito, South Africa, for the third of six stages of the circuit.
