Álvaro Pacheco resigned from the technical command of Vitória SC in recent days and traveled on Sunday morning to Rio de Janeiro to sign for Vasco da Gama. Upon leaving for Brazil, the coach explained the reasons that led to his departure from Guimarães.

"What I can say is, first, to thank you for the opportunity to coach Vitória, and also to thank this squad, which was fantastic. From the beginning, we had the challenge of making history and we were able to do it. The group had a lot of potential and was different from the ones I had found until then. I really believed that they were capable of making history and they did, congratulations. Also, a word to everyone who worked with me, the commission, coaches and staff, who helped to make this journey, which I am very proud of. That was the work we did at Vitória", began the coach, quoted by the newspaper A Bola.

"What makes me sad, and what I had felt for a long time, is that I was not the coach of the future and of Vitória's project. Therefore, still in April, I accepted Vitória's proposal to terminate the contract for the next season and after that date, each one would follow their own path. However, three days before the Arouca game I learned that this would not happen. If you ask me why I couldn't do it, you have to ask the president [António Miguel Cardoso]. I know, I can prove and I will prove that I wanted to play the game", he continued.

Álvaro Pacheco was also enthusiastic about the move to Vasco da Gama.

"Vasco da Gama is a great opportunity, I will coach a great Brazilian and world club. For me, it is a great pride, I am going with a great desire to work. It will be giant again. I am going with a great desire to work, to help Vasco to go to the levels it deserves and to return to the moments of decisions and titles. I see a lot of potential in the squad. I am very excited about being able to write a beautiful page for Vasco together. It is a club that has already been champion four times, won a Copa do Brasil, a Libertadores, and has gone through ups and downs. I am aware of its greatness, demand, with passionate fans", he concluded.
