In the first four months of the year, hydroelectric production supplied 48% of consumption, wind 30%, photovoltaic 7% and biomass 6%, detailed, in a statement, today released, the manager of the national electricity and natural gas systems.

Natural gas production supplied 9% of consumption, while the balance of trade with foreign countries was practically zero.

In an analysis of the month of April, it was observed that renewable production was responsible for supplying 94.9% of electricity consumption, this being the fourth consecutive time with monthly values above 80%, after 91% in March, 88% in February and 81% in January.

In April, electricity consumption grew by 3.4%, representing an increase of 0.2% considering the correction of temperature effects and number of working days.

In the month under analysis, the hydroelectric productivity index reached 1.49, wind 1.08 and solar 1.01 (historical averages of 1), while the solar component, although the least significant of the three, continued to grow significantly, having reached in April the highest monthly weight ever, corresponding to 10.5% of consumption.

Electricity production through natural gas maintained a downward trend in consumption, with a monthly homologous decrease of 86%, since it is conditioned by the high availability of renewable energy.

In the opposite direction, natural gas consumption in the conventional segment registered a homologous increase of close to 5%.

At the end of April, the accumulated annual gas consumption registered a negative homologous variation of 12%, with the electricity production segment contracting 50% and the conventional segment growing 5.6%.

According to REN, this is the lowest consumption since 2004 for the period in question.
