On "March 31, 2024, employment in the public administration sector stood at 748,870 jobs, reflecting a 0.5% year-on-year increase and a 0.4% increase compared to the previous quarter", revealed the statistical summary of public employment.
Compared to the first quarter of last year, there were thus 3,439 more jobs, especially in local government (3,291), as a result of the increase in employment in the senior technician career.
In turn, the central administration had an increase of 0.1% or 549 jobs.
Compared to the previous quarter, the gain was 0.4%, equivalent to 3,280 more jobs in public administration employment due to the increase in the number of workers in central government (2,104) and local government (1,195).
As detailed in the same document, the increase in employment was mainly due to the medical career (1,163), "resulting from the hiring of doctors who started their internship in healthcare institutions, and by the Armed Forces, in which there were 649 more jobs".
DGAEP also said that, in the quarter under analysis, the transition of workers from health centre groups and other public administrative sector entities to local health units, the reorganisation and creation of new entities in the government area of culture, as well as the transition of workers from various entities, had a "particular impact".
Among the latter, the regional directorates of agriculture and fisheries for the regional coordination and development commissions stand out.
Compared to the last quarter of 2011 (the year in which the quarterly statistics data began to be published), there was a growth of 2.9%, which corresponds to 21,169 more jobs.
