Rent support once again covers tenants with modified contracts
The Council of Ministers approved today a change in the support for rents so that people who lost this subsidy, due to a change in the contract, can receive it again, announced the Minister of the Presidency, Leitão Amaro.

This is about complying with one of the measures provided for in the new housing strategy, approved by the Government in early May, which allows people who had a contract prior to March 15, 2023, and who lost it due to a change and this having been classified as a new lease contract, to recover extraordinary rent support.
"What we are saying is that if there was a contract before March 15, 2023, and if [it] remains between the same parties and in the same property, this equivalence is made and this inequity can be corrected", said the minister.
Thus, if the parties and the property remain the same, the tenant who had the support will receive it again even if there has been a change, renewal or replacement of the existing contract before March 15, 2023, provided that the person maintains the requirements such as having a rent payment effort rate of over 35%.
