Jamaica officially recognizes the State of Palestine
Jamaica has decided to officially recognize the State of Palestine and has called for an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli offensive has caused more than 34,000 Palestinian deaths since October.

Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith said in a statement released in the last hours that with this step Jamaica "strengthens its advocacy for a peaceful resolution" of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
"Jamaica continues to advocate for a two-State solution as the only viable solution to resolve the protracted conflict, guarantee the security of Israel and uphold the dignity and rights of the Palestinians," she stressed.
The head of diplomacy argued that the decision is in line with Jamaica's "strong commitment" to the principles of the United Nations Charter, which point to peaceful coexistence between States and the right of peoples to self-determination.
