According to the France Presse agency (AFP), about 50 protesters were taken out of the building and then removed in groups, supervised by the police, a few days after a mobilization marked by tensions in another renowned university in the French capital, Sciences Po Paris.
"There were about 50 people when the police arrived running to the patio. The evacuation was quite brutal, with about ten people dragged to the floor, but no arrests", said Rémi, 20, a history and geography student, quoted by AFP.
Several dozen students gathered at noon today in front of the Sorbonne and inside the building, where they set up tents - a dozen, according to the rectory, between 20 and 30 according to a protester. A Palestinian flag was placed on the floor.
"The amphitheatres were evacuated around noon", said the rectory, which decided to close the Sorbonne this afternoon.
About 150 people gathered in front of the university, in the presence of three deputies from the radical left-wing party France Insoumise.
On Friday, a day of blockades and mobilization, punctuated by tensions, was held at Sciences Po Paris, in the presence of several deputies from that party.
The protests have as a backdrop the invasion of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, where in the last six months more than 34 thousand people died, mostly civilians, plunging the territory into a serious humanitarian crisis.
The Israeli offensive is a retaliation for the attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, which on October 7 killed more than 1,100 people and took about 250 hostages.
