The recently elected President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, makes his first visit to Bissau today, for a few hours, having been received at Osvaldo Vieira international airport by his Guinean counterpart, Umaro Sissoco Embaló. Speaking at the Presidential Palace, in the center of Bissau, Faye declared his willingness to maintain the ties of "history, kinship, geography and cooperation" that exist between the two countries. Bassirou Domaye Faye cited the references made by Sissoco Embalo to the relations that "have always existed" between the Presidents of Senegal and Guinea-Bissau. The new President of Senegal, 44 years old, observed that it is the responsibility of the current leaders to continue and deepen these relations, namely in the areas of defense, security, fishing and training of Guinean executives in Senegalese institutions. "Our two countries can and should do much more," said Faye, who makes his third trip abroad in Bissau since he took office as President of Senegal, on the 2nd. The first trip was to Mauritania, followed by Gambia. Faye took advantage of the joint statement by the two heads of state to thank Sissoco Embaló for his presence at the ceremony in which he was sworn in, which he considered to be "proof of the excellent relations" between the two countries. Regarding cooperation, Faye stated that the two States "do not need to go far" to find what they can find in their countries and suggested convening "as soon as possible" the Grand Joint Commission. The Guinean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Pinto Pereira, told reporters that the Grand Joint Commission will discuss "all aspects of cooperation" between the two countries, namely the exploration of shared natural resources. Expressing "pride" in Faye's visit, the Guinean President said that he had discussed with his counterpart "various aspects of common interest" that should be consolidated, namely in the areas of defense, security, artisanal fishing, agriculture and training of Guinean executives. Sissoco Embaló said that he also addressed the issue of the Management and Cooperation Agency (AGC), which manages a common maritime zone where it is believed that there are important fishing and hydrocarbon resources. The Guinean head of state, who does not hide his personal friendship with former Senegalese President Macky Sall, whom he calls "older brother", stated that in Senegal "there is continuity of the State" and said he was confident that he would continue to "walk side by side" with Bassirou Diomaye Faye. "Nothing can separate us," he said. Upon his arrival, from the airport to the center of Bissau, a distance of eight kilometers, Diomaye Faye was greeted by hundreds of Senegalese citizens who displayed posters and flags of their country.
