A Japanese restaurant in Pickering, Singapore, has sparked controversy after adding a new dish to its menu: raw octopus eggs.

The dish is called Tako Tamago (think crystallized baby octopus, in English) and is described by Koji as having a "delicate, creamy texture". It is also said to be rich in protein, vitamin B12, and omega 3. For 80 grams of this 'delicacy', Koji charges around 15 euros.

Despite the supposed health benefits, the dish doesn't seem to have convinced most internet users who have seen the video presentation. Many users were put off by the look of the item, calling it "disgusting" and lamenting the fact that people are eating "baby octopuses".

"This should be illegal," one user protested. Another said the dish was "so wrong" because "so many octopuses are being wasted for a weird, expensive trend".

On the other hand, there are those who find it funny and would like to try the 'delicacy'.

The images, which may be off-putting to the more sensitive, show a sac being torched and when it 'pops', dozens of eggs appear.
