It was seven years ago that musician Evan and war veteran Bill met and fell in love, despite their 45-year age gap. But Bill's journey to accepting his sexuality was a long one.
Bill realized he was gay after enlisting in the Navy during World War II.
It was while on a ship in Guam that Bill found his first love. However, the man returned to the US and the pair lost touch. His heartbreak led him to question whether his homosexuality was worth fighting for and upon returning home, he underwent conversion therapy. During this time, he had to prove to a panel of doctors that he was "cured" of his attraction to men, and he subsequently met a woman who he was married to for 53 years.
After being widowed, Bill returned to therapy - this time grief counseling - and began to question whether he was really straight. This time, he was encouraged to explore his sexuality and find a partner.
The search wasn't easy at first, as many approached him looking for financial stability. That all changed when he connected with Evan on a dating app.
Evan, meanwhile, says he has been attracted to older men since he was four years old. He was even in a relationship with an older man for almost a decade, which only ended when the man passed away.
The pair met when Bill was 91 and Evan was 45, and have been together ever since. Bill says that Evan saved his life, and that he wouldn't be here without him.
