Indonesia flash floods death toll rises to 34
The death toll from flash floods and cold lava flows on Indonesia's Sumatra island has risen to 34, the country's disaster agency said on Wednesday.

"As far as we know, 34 people have died: 16 in Agam and 18 in Tanah Datar. At least 18 people have been injured. We are also still searching for 16 other people," spokesperson Ilham Wahab told the AFP news agency.
The floods hit the districts of Agam and Tanah Datar, in the west of the western island of Sumatra, at around 10:30 pm (2:30 pm Lisbon time) on Saturday.
For hours on Saturday, torrential rains fell in the region, causing flash floods and lahars from Mount Merapi, a volcano in West Sumatra province.
Lahars are a slurry of volcanic debris that form the sides of a volcano: ash, sand and rocks. Under the effect of rain, these materials can mix and run down the crater.
The latest report from local emergency services had reported 12 dead and four missing.
Nine of the fatalities have been identified, including two children aged three and eight, the head of the Basarnas search and rescue agency, Abdul Malik, said in a statement.
Landslides and floods are common in Indonesia during the rainy season.
In March, at least 26 people were found dead after landslides and floods in West Sumatra.
