A storm hit Paris on Sunday afternoon and an airplane flying over the city was struck by lightning. The spectacular moment was captured by photographer Bertrand Kulik, who is used to immortalizing the storms in the Parisian sky from his apartment.

To get this magnificent result, this professional violinist had to be patient. "I waited all afternoon. I looked at the weather maps in real time and waited for the storms," he told Le Parisien.

When he took the picture, this nature photography enthusiast did not realize the detail he had just captured: "The funny thing is that when I took that picture I did not see that there was a plane. It was when I looked at the picture on the computer that I realized."

At first, Bertrand Kulik even admits to having been disappointed because he noticed that the lightning had a discontinuity, so he wondered if there was any dust or dirt on the lens. Only later, when enlarging the image, did he see the plane.

"It was a very good surprise. It is extremely rare to capture this type of image in Paris, I even think it is the first time. I will not do another one like that anytime soon," he points out. "When you look closely, you can see that it hits a wing and goes to the other side, which is quite characteristic."
