Mundo Polémica

Much ink has already flowed (and continues to flow) about the trip of the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, to Spain, last weekend, for a convention of the extreme right, 'Viva 24'. In it, the head of the Argentine government started a controversy after, among other statements - controversial - he referred to the wife of the Spanish prime minister as "corrupt".

It should be recalled that the opening of a diplomatic conflict even led Madrid to withdraw its ambassador in Buenos Aires - with Argentina responding that it would not do the same with its representation in Spain.

The issue remains on the agenda in the neighboring country, with the newspaper El País reporting this Thursday that, on April 30, the Argentine embassy in Madrid informed - by letter - the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs about Milei's trip, emphasizing that it was "a private visit".

"Mr. President of the Republic of Argentina, Mr. Javier Gerardo Milei, will be in Spain between May 17 and 19, on a private visit", are the words quoted by the newspaper.

This weekend's trip was the first that Javier Milei made to Spain after taking office, but he did not meet with authorities in the country. The Argentine government explained, last week, that Milei intends to return to Spain in June and there he will request official hearings.

"We will see how far the totalitarianism in his blood will take him"

On social networks, the Argentine president announced that he does not intend to cancel his trip to Spain, on June 21, to receive an award from a Spanish liberal think tank.

"We will see how far the totalitarianism in his blood will take him.... I will travel to receive the Juan de Mariana Award", wrote the Argentine leader on his profile on the social network X, accompanying an article from the Spanish digital newspaper Vozpópuli, which states that the government of the socialist Pedro Sánchez "is considering prohibiting Milei's second visit to Spain".

"We will see if his great inferiority complex allows the Spanish liberals to reward me personally", it can be read.
