"The meeting went extremely well", said the president of the Portuguese Medical Association, at the end of the first meeting with the ministry, highlighting the "great receptiveness of the Minister of Health, with a set of proposals immediately accepted, and others that will have to be reviewed".
Carlos Cortes spoke to journalists at the end of the meeting, saying that there is "a set of measures that the Portuguese Medical Association presented that it will develop in a document to the Ministry of Health".
The president also listed a set of difficulties, "starting with primary health care with 1 million and 700 thousand Portuguese who do not have a family doctor, there are difficulties in the area of surgeries, in the first consultations, in the maternity wards...".
For these difficulties, the president asserts that the Association will present "concrete measures".
Regarding the issues of remuneration, this "is a matter for the unions", with the Association being focused on the "dignification of the career".
The meeting of the Portuguese Medical Association with the Minister of Health took place this Monday. After the Portuguese Medical Association, the ministry will receive the other associations, such as the nurses or the psychologists.
