"Galp does not comment on acts of vandalism that, due to their criminal nature, should be dealt with in the appropriate forum by the courts", said the company in a reaction sent to the Lusa agency.

A source from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP told Lusa that about 10 members of the movement vandalized the facade of Galp's headquarters, breaking windows.

The same source said that the alert was given at 7:14 a.m. and that when the authorities arrived at the scene, none of the members were there, so no one was identified, the police added.

In a statement, the movement says that "a group of Climáximo supporters shattered the windows of the facade of Galp's new headquarters and painted the phrase 'Galp: not here or anywhere'".

The collective criticizes the "murderous business of the company", days after the confirmation of the discovery of reserves "equivalent to 10 billion barrels of oil in Namibia, or more than 100 years of oil consumption for Portugal".

"It is intolerable that, in the midst of a climate crisis, companies like Galp continue to have 'carte blanche' to perpetuate the mass murder of people around the world through the incessant burning of fossil fuels", says Inês Teles, spokesperson for the action triggered today in Lisbon, quoted in the statement.

And she adds: "Breaking the windows of this headquarters is an act of legitimate defense against a colonial and murderous company, which claims to be a leader in the green transition, but continues to inaugurate new death projects for the extraction of fossil fuels in countries like Mozambique and Namibia".

Galp Energia announced today that it obtained a profit of 337 million euros in the first quarter of 2024, 35% above the 250 million euros of the homologous period and which compares with 284 million of the previous quarter.
