The President of the Police Professional Union Association, Paulo Santos, said this Thursday that the "Government is aware of the problem" related to the proposal to grant a subsidy to members of the security forces. Paulo Santos recalled that the Democratic Alliance (AD) "committed, if it were the Government, to deal with the issue".

Speaking to journalists before the meeting with the Minister of Internal Administration (MAI), Paulo Santos stressed that the police have no proposal to present to the Government, as they are "part of a platform" that "decided that it would be the Government to present a proposal".

"The Government is aware of the problem. It criticized the previous Government very well for leaving the PSP and GNR out of this issue and committed, if it were the Government, to deal with the issue in the same way", said Paulo Santos, who reiterated that the sector will "calmly await a proposal".

Asked about a possible boycott by the security forces of various events, Paulo Santos replied: "now is the time for negotiation". "I had the opportunity to tell the Minister to understand what is happening in the security forces, even from the point of view of demotivation", he said.

"We ask the Government to keep its word", he also stressed.

It should be recalled that the Minister of Internal Administration, Margarida Blasco, will present this Thursday to the PSP unions and socio-professional associations of the GNR the proposal to grant a subsidy to members of the security forces.

The proposal will be presented, in separate meetings, to the four socio-professional associations of the National Republican Guard and to the six unions of the Public Security Police, which demand a mission supplement identical to that which the previous socialist Government attributed to the Judicial Police.

The meeting between the MAI and the Police Professional Union Association is scheduled for 5 pm.
