"We will create a [telephone] line for family members who want to have information about their family members who were hospitalized. In other words, the DRS is already working on creating this line", the president of the Board of Directors of the Hospital Divino Espírito Santo (HDES), Manuela Menezes, told reporters.

HDES was hit by a fire today that forced the transfer of all hospitalized patients.

Manuela Menezes also said that the family members of the patients who were hospitalized "should remain calm" because they are temporarily accommodated in other health units on the island of São Miguel and "are accompanied by doctors and nurses from their own services".

The official also said that, at 8:00 pm local time today (9:00 pm in Lisbon), family members of hospitalized patients who want to go to the hospital for more information "should go to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation service", where there will be "a person to provide this type of information".

Following the fire, the first alert of which was given at 9:40 am local time (10:40 am in Lisbon), the HDES emergency room had to be closed and the hospital was evacuated.

The official also said that patients who were in the delivery room, neonatology, pediatrics, emergency room and intensive care unit were transferred to the CUF hospital in Lagoa, in São Miguel.

Patients were also transferred to health centers, to the Casa de Saúde de Nossa Senhora da Conceição and to the Clínica do Bom Jesus.

With the help of the Army, equipment was transported to both the CUF unit and the health centers.

The fire was declared extinguished at 4:11 pm local time (5:11 pm in Lisbon), having caused minor injuries to nine of the 104 firefighters mobilized, Civil Protection revealed today.
