Sporting champion? There are restrictions on opening hours for establishments in Lisbon
Lisbon City Council has decreed for today the restriction of opening hours of various commercial establishments in Lisbon, from 20:30 hours, in the event that Sporting is crowned champion.

According to the order from councilman Ângelo Pereira, dated from Saturday, the Lisbon City Council (CML) agreed to the request from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police.
The CML determines, due to "security reasons", the restriction of opening hours starting at 8:30 p.m. on May 5, 2024 for various commercial establishments located on Avenida da Liberdade, Avenida Duque de Loulé, Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo, Rua Braancamp, Rua Camilo Castelo Branco, Rua Castilho, Rua Eça de Queiroz, Rua Tomás Ribeiro, Rua Andrade Corvo, Rua Martens Ferrão, Rua Viriato, Rua São Sebastião da Pedreira, Avenida António Augusto de Aguiar, Parque Eduardo VII and Rua Mouzinho da Silveira.
However, "if the game, and consequent result of SL Benfica is not favourable for the Sporting CP championship celebrations to occur, the establishments may reopen during the game (if the result is unbalanced in favour of SL Benfica) or at the end of the game (if SL Benfica wins and, consequently, there are no Sporting CP celebrations)".
Benfica visits Famalicão today, on the 32nd round of the Portuguese I League, and must win to prevent Sporting from winning the title now.
With the 'lions' triumph on Saturday against Portimonense (3-0), the 'incarnates' enter the field with an eight-point deficit and know that only a triumph will allow them to keep the hope of continuing to fight for the title, because if they draw or lose, Sporting can celebrate winning the championship.
