The National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Public Security Police (PSP) carried out a national police operation called Portugal + Seguro this weekend, between May 4 and 5, in the context of nightlife, in the areas of Lisbon, Setúbal and Porto. This, the forces guarantee in a joint statement, aimed to "inspect nightlife venues and establishments, and also carry out inspection actions in the scope of road safety, weapons and explosives, consumption and sale of narcotics and psychotropic substances and private security". The operation resulted in the seizure of 607 doses of narcotics, including 600 doses of hashish, two doses of cannabis, two doses of cocaine and three doses of heroin. According to the statement, five weapons were also seized, including a firearm and four bladed weapons. As for road safety, 83 people were arrested, 20 of whom were driving under the influence of alcohol and 16 for not having a driving license, eight for drug trafficking and two for possession of a prohibited weapon. 171 contravention reports were also registered, 11 of which were for speeding, 23 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 28 for lack of mandatory civil liability insurance and 22 for lack of use of child restraint systems. The two security forces issued two contravention reports for lack of a seat belt, nine for improper use of a mobile phone while driving and 72 under other legislation unrelated to the Highway Code.
