"I had the opportunity to speak with the Minister of National Defense who took the initiative to contact me to make available, on behalf of the Armed Forces, a field hospital that can be installed here to provide the possible response in this Hospital's facilities", said the president of the Regional Government of the Azores (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM).
José Manuel Bolieiro was speaking to journalists after a visit he made, together with the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, to the Hospital of the Divine Holy Spirit (HDES), on the island of São Miguel.
The head of the Azorean executive said that the board of directors of the Hospital of Ponta Delgada will make a "survey of needs" for the installation of the field hospital.
According to José Manuel Bolieiro, the fire affected above all "the safe operation that the hospital must have to treat its patients".
The fire, which broke out at the Hospital of Ponta Delgada at 09:40 local time on Saturday (10:40 in Lisbon), forced the transfer of all patients who were hospitalized.
