"In 2023, the authorities that make up the GAC seized 655,594 units of counterfeit or pirated products in Portugal", it said in a statement.

Compared to 2022, there was a 37% decrease.

The seizures are the result of actions carried out by the Authority for Food and Economic Safety (ASAE), the Tax and Customs Authority (AT), the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Public Security Police (PSP).

Of note are the parts and pieces that make up and complement clothing and footwear products (200,672), which represented 31% of the total.

Last year, there was an increase in seizures of electrical, electronic and computer equipment, footwear, parts and accessories, toys and games, and sporting goods.

In 2023, 532,214 units of medicines were cleared through customs, with the most sought-after by Portuguese consumers being for the cardiovascular and blood system, erectile dysfunction, gastrointestinal system, nervous system and psychotropic drugs.

During this period, the General Inspectorate for Cultural Activities (IGAC) ordered the removal/blocking of access to 258 domains "that illegally provided protected works and content", linked to sporting events/'live streaming' (116), video games (71), cinematographic works (57), musical works (11), literary works (two) and 'software' (one).

"It also ordered the blocking of 1,652 occurrences of the 1,660 identified relating to the illegal provision on the network in real time and for a limited duration, within the scope of viewing 134 football matches", it added.

In turn, ASAE inspected 10,877 'sites' and registered 25 criminal proceedings for violation of industrial property rights.

In addition to the GNR, ASAE, AT and PSP, the Judicial Police and the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) are members of the GAC.
