Carla Martins, a member of the ERC Regulatory Board, assumes that the sector faces "great difficulties and challenges", adding that the "evolution of technology is accelerated" and that the media entities adapt to the "digital paradigm" at different speeds.

She also believes that the State has a "crucial role", defending a "balanced" funding model, given that traditional business models are not sufficient due to the migration of advertising to digital media.

According to Carla Martins, present at the 33rd APDC Congress that ends today in Lisbon, we are now experiencing a "new communication and information ecosystem" where digital platforms profit from the journalistic content created by the media.

The ERC's head says that the "regulatory approach has to be based on dialogue" and admits that it is not possible to have "efficient regulation with its back turned to the sector", adding that the media "are a public good".
