In a statement, the National Republican Guard (GNR) explained that the suspect was arrested on Friday and was presented to court, having been released on bail.
"The facts were reported to the Vila Viçosa Judicial Court and the case was sent for investigation," a source from the GNR's Évora Territorial Command told Lusa news agency.
The man's arrest was carried out by officers from the Criminal Investigation Unit (NIC) of the Estremoz Territorial Detachment, as part of a random inspection.
The Guard officers approached the man, who "exhibited suspicious behaviour", and so he was subjected to a personal security search, during which the drugs were found.
"Following the police investigation, a house search was carried out at the suspect's residence, which culminated in his arrest," the statement reads.
In addition to the drugs, the GNR seized 12 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, four bladed weapons, two air guns, an 'airsoft' gun, 820 euros in cash and various materials related to drug trafficking.
The operation was supported by officers from the territorial posts of Borba and Estremoz, as well as by a Dog Unit from the Évora Intervention Detachment (DI) of the Guard.
