Child is not "Nepalese" and there was no "lynching". School opens investigation
The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MECI) rejects any lynching of a Nepalese child by students of a school in Amadora (Lisbon), confirming the opening of an inquiry by the school into the aggression between two students in November.

"In the face of the news that emerged in the media, the director of the group became aware, at the end of last week, of reports that indicated an episode of aggression between two students, and not a 'lynching' involving 'five or six', which occurred in November and not 'two months ago'. Neither of the students is of 'Nepalese nationality', nor is 'nine years old'. Following these reports, the management of the group opened an inquiry process, which is still ongoing", said the MECI in response to Lusa.
The newspaper Observador reported today the opening of an inquiry by the Amadora school where the alleged aggressions took place.
Last week, the MECI had already stated that it had no evidence of a lynching of a child of Nepalese nationality.
The Centro Padre Alves Correia (CEPAC), which denounced the episode, initially reported by Rádio Renascença, also admitted last week that "it was a mistake" to disclose information about the nationality and age of the child allegedly assaulted at a school and acknowledged that the use of the "term lynching" was not appropriate.
Initially, the case, which led to the opening of an inquiry by the Public Prosecutor's Office, was reported by the executive director of CEPAC to Renascença as having "xenophobic and racist motivations" on the part of the minor aggressors.
