"Ventura made an anti-25th of April speech. CDS wasn't so different"

In Alexandra Leitão's opinion, the huge turnout for the 25th of April parade, recorded this year, is due to the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, but also to the "growth of far-right forces".

Alexandra Leitão defended, on Sunday night, on CNN Portugal, that the great adhesion of the Portuguese to this year's parade on 25 April is due not only to the fact that it commemorated 50 years of the Carnation Revolution, but also because "we have today a political force that naturally does not have the same enthusiasm for freedom as other political forces".

The parliamentary leader of the PS began by emphasizing that it was the parade of 25 April that saw "more people, more diverse people, more engaged people and more people spontaneously outside the organizations that have order in the parade", which, in her opinion, "values 25 April".

Despite considering that "any person on the Right can have the same enthusiasm for freedom" as people on the Left, "it does not mean that everyone does", recalling the speech by the leader of Chega and the CDS in the Assembly of the Republic (AR) within the scope of the commemorations of 25 April, last Thursday.

"What we heard, for example, in André Ventura's speech, in the official commemorations in the AR, was an anti-regime speech, an anti-25 April speech, anti-regime out of 25 April and, unfortunately, I regret to say that, from the CDS, with a higher style, it was not so different. It was different in style, it was not so different in content", she said.

For Alexandra Leitão it is clear that "today we have a political force that naturally does not have the same enthusiasm for freedom that other right-wing political forces have and that even has the symbolic number of 50 deputies in the AR". "Obviously, I have no doubt that this brought many thousands of people to the streets and yes, essentially, people from the Left, but I believe that not only", she stressed.

The former Minister of State and Public Administration Modernization is thus convinced that "the demonstration had this resounding spontaneity for the 50 years of April but, above all, [by the people] feeling that there is a growth of the extreme right forces, radical right, anti-regime out of 25 April, anti-democracy and anti-freedom".
