Former Health Minister Adalberto Campos Fernandes considered, on Monday, that it is necessary to clarify whether the IRS adjustment in pensions was "a technical or administrative failure" or a case of "technical or management negligence". "The person responsible must be called to Parliament", he said.
In a political commentary space on CNN Portugal, Adalberto Campos Fernandes stated that "in terms of rights and, above all, pensions and taxes, the last thing that political forces should do is invent or follow paths that approach trickery or illusionism".
The commentator stressed that "just as happened recently regarding the controversies over the IRS increase and the misunderstandings that arose related to the position of the Democratic Alliance (AD)", the situation regarding pensions must be verified and, "naturally, responsibilities must be determined". Thus, the former Minister of Health considers that "it is necessary to call the person responsible to Parliament and "understand whether it was a technical or administrative failure, or, let's say, technical or management negligence".
For Adalberto Campos Fernandes, it is also essential to "understand whether or not there is a political dimension here". If there is, the commentator believes that "it must be denounced and criticized" and, if it is a failure, there must be "consequences".
"The important thing is that with citizens' income, whether in terms of pensions or their rights, namely tax rights, transparency and total fairness are essential. Therefore, there is no middle ground, nor can there be any doubts", he also stressed.
