ADN: Hotel manager returns to lead the list and promises to "hit on innovative themes"

Former Chega activist Miguel Pita, the face of several demonstrations against the excessive restrictive measures against covid-19 applied in Madeira, once again leads the list of the National Democratic Alternative, after the debut in the regional elections of September 2023.

Born in Funchal, born on December 27, 1972, and a hotel manager by profession, Miguel Pita was a Chega candidate for a parish council in 2020 and in the national legislative elections of 2022.

However, he says that his affiliation with Chega was "pure illusion" and in 2023 he became a member of the ADN, having led the list for the Madeiran legislative elections in that year, in which the party was the least voted in 13 candidacies, obtaining 617 votes (0.47%), in a universe of 135,446 voters.

Miguel Henrique Silva Pita, who resides in the municipality of Ribeira Brava, in the western part of Madeira, says that the ADN's objective in the early elections of May 26 is to elect a deputy, but warns that the party is not available for post-electoral agreements with any other political force.

The candidate, also coordinator of the ADN in the autonomous region, states that "it would be an honor to be the first parliamentary seat in Madeira" for the party, emphasizing that he will "hit on innovative themes".

BE: Former regional coordinator wants to strengthen parliamentary representation

The former coordinator of the Left Bloc in Madeira, Roberto Almada, is once again the head of the list, after being elected the party's only deputy in the 2023 regional elections, which marked the return of the bloc to the regional parliament.

The Left Bloc lost its parliamentary representation in the 2011-2015 legislature, after electing two deputies in the legislature between 2015 and 2019, but in the elections of that year it did not get any representative.

Now, in the early elections of May 26 in Madeira, the candidate says that the objective is to increase parliamentary representation and ensures that "he will never make agreements with the PSD", nor with the right-wing parties.

Roberto Carlos Teixeira Almada was born in Funchal, a municipality where he resides, on November 16, 1970, and made his debut in regional politics in 1999, but only took the position of deputy in 2008 to replace the historic leader of the UDP/Madeira Paulo Martins.

After having coordinated the BE/Madeira for about a decade, Roberto Almada, who is a senior technician in Social Education, withdrew from political life when he lost the internal elections in 2018, from which Paulino Ascensão emerged victorious.

In September 2023, he accepted the challenge of leading the party's list and was elected with 3,035 votes (2.30%), in a universe of 135,446 voters.

PS: Professor wants to "turn the page" on the governance of the autonomous region

Paulo Cafôfo, leader of PS/Madeira and deputy in the Assembly of the Republic, is the head of the list for the early elections of May 26 and states that the socialists are the only force capable of ensuring government alternation in the region.

A professor with a degree in History, Paulo Alexandre Nascimento Cafôfo became known for having led the list that removed power from the PSD for the first time in the Funchal Municipal Chamber, in 2013, and for having held the position of Secretary of State for Communities in the last PS Government of António Costa.

He led the Funchal municipality between 2013 and 2019, the year in which he left office to lead the PS list for the regional elections, the party having obtained the best result ever with the election of 19 deputies.

In 2020 he was elected president of PS/Madeira, but resigned in September 2021, alleging the party's poor result in the local elections. In March of this year, he headed the socialist list of candidates for the Madeira constituency to the Assembly of the Republic and was elected deputy.

The PS maintains the status of the largest opposition party in Madeira, but suffered a sharp drop in the vote in the regional elections of September 24, 2023, going from 19 deputies to 11 (28,840 votes - 21.89%), in a total of 47 that make up the hemicycle, which led to the departure of the regional leader, Sérgio Gonçalves.

Paulo Cafôfo then ran again for the leadership of the party's regional structure, without an opponent, and was elected.

Born on May 18, 1971 (he is 52 years old and will celebrate his birthday during the campaign), in the parish of Santa Luzia, in the municipality of Funchal, where he resides, Paulo Cafôfo now wants to "turn the page" in the autonomous region.

Livre: Unenrolled culture professional wants to give hope to people

Marta Sofia, a culture professional, is the head of the Livre list, a party that made its debut in regional elections in Madeira in September 2023, obtaining 858 votes (0.65%), in a universe of 135,446 voters.

The candidate, who is 40 years old (born on November 06, 1983), runs as an unenrolled member of the party and wants to "give hope" to people who are skeptical of politics and politicians.

Marta Sofia Vieira Silva, who has already been a member of the PEV and the BE, guarantees that, if elected, she will not make "any PSD or right-wing government viable", stressing that she will also not support those who collude with the social democrats, who have governed the autonomous region since 1976.

Born in Funchal, but currently residing in the municipality of Santa Cruz, in the eastern part of Madeira, the head of the Livre list highlights housing, health and ecology as priority areas of the party's electoral program.

IL: Actor and aeronautical technician returns to lead the list that elected him deputy in 2023

Actor and theater producer Nuno Morna returns to lead the list of the Liberal Initiative (IL) in the early elections of May 26, after being elected the only deputy in the 2023 regional elections, marking the party's debut in the Madeiran parliament.

Humberto Nuno de Carvalho Homem e Morna Gomes, who was born on February 17, 1961 (he is 63 years old), in the parish of São Pedro do Sul, in the district of Viseu, now wants to strengthen the vote in the IL and refuses agreements with other political forces.

The candidate, also an aeronautical technician at NAV - Air Navigation, has been a member of the IL since 2017, being one of the party's founders, of which he was a member of the National Council. Today he is part of the Executive Committee and is coordinator of the Madeira nucleus.

In 2019, he was the head of the list in the Madeira regional elections, without getting the mandate, and appeared third on the party's national list in the European elections that year. He was also a candidate for the Santa Cruz Chamber, a municipality where he resides, in the 2021 local elections.

In the 2023 regional elections, the IL obtained 3,555 votes (2.70%), in a universe of 135,446 voters, and Morna was elected deputy.

Nuno Morna, who has the 12th grade and university attendance, is a well-known face for his participation in cultural life for 40 years. He collaborated for more than a decade with RDP and RTP in Madeira, presenting, directing and producing programs, and has several participations in television series.

His name is also linked to the foundation of the Madeira Theater Company (COM.TEMA). He began his career as an actor at the Teatro Experimental do Funchal and was part of the cast of the theater company Arte Livre do Brasil, which mad>
