Repairs? "Neither I nor my father-in-law have authorized Ventura to speak for us"

Rui Rocha took the floor in Parliament and revealed a little of his story within the scope of the theme of possible reparations to former colonies, raised by the President of the Republic: "Few will know, but I was born in Lobito, Angola. My family and I lost everything. I am what we commonly call a returnee," he said.

'Lesson from a returnee to André Ventura'. This is the title of the video that Rui Rocha, leader of the Liberal Initiative (IL) shared this Friday on the social network X [former Twitter] and where he reveals a bit of his life story to ensure that he will not let André Ventura, from Chega, speak for him.

At issue is the issue of possible reparations to former colonies, raised by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at a dinner (which later turned out to be controversial) with the foreign press in Portugal.

"Few will know, but I was born in Lobito, Angola. My family and I lost everything. I am what we commonly call a returnee", Rui Rocha begins by saying in the publication in question, adding: "My father-in-law, having been an ex-combatant, also knows the Portuguese colonial reality and the hardships of that period well".

"Despite the unequivocal political condemnation of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa's words on historical reparations, neither I nor my father-in-law authorize deputy André Ventura to speak for us", the liberal made a point of emphasizing.

And he adds: "We do not accept that a politician seeks to use the mandate that the Portuguese have entrusted to him to corrupt Parliament and the functioning of democratic institutions and to act judicially, in a spurious and opportunistic manner, because of unacceptable statements by the President of the Republic".

It should be recalled that today Parliament rejected, by a large majority, opening a process against the President of the Republic for treason following statements on possible reparations to former colonies, with Chega isolated in the vote in favor.
