In a statement, the European Commission announced that the latest Eurobarometer points to a shortage of cybersecurity skills and the need to hire more specialists "across the EU".
The Eurobarometer is in line with a report recently published by the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity, which pointed out the shortage of skills in this area as a problem that persists in almost all the countries of the community bloc and that increases cyber threats.
"This is a major threat" to the functioning of the single market and the countries themselves, admitted the community executive.
Therefore, Ursula von der Leyen's executive wants to increase "awareness, visibility of cybersecurity skills initiatives and increase the number of capable professionals" in the political-economic bloc.
The Eurobarometer published today is part of a strategy of the Cybersecurity Competence Academy launched a year ago to "strengthen synergies between public and private initiatives at European and national level".
This year, the Commission will invest ten million euros to support projects of this type.
