The organization of the fifth round of the World Championship (WRC) expects more than a million people to watch the competitors of what is the most popular stage so far.
"Our rally is a world reference in terms of safety and we want to keep it that way. We ask the fans who will be on the sections to respect all the indications of the GNR and the race stewards, and to watch the rally only in the areas designated for the public, which were designed to guarantee all the conditions of accessibility and safety. Only in this way can we guarantee the normal running of the race", appealed Horácio Rodrigues, the rally director.
The GNR also emphasizes the need for the public to collaborate with the organization and the authorities.
"It will be one of the fundamental pillars for the success of this operation. We have a complex operation, which required a great deal of planning on our part, and we want to guarantee the safety of all spectators and participants in the event", stressed Lieutenant-Colonel Mafalda Almeida.
The same person in charge of the GNR pointed out "adverse weather conditions, with high temperatures and dry weather".
"As we are in forest areas, we reinforce the appeal for everyone's collaboration, also for the prevention of fires", she concluded.
The race will hit the road on Thursday, with the Figueira da Foz super special, the first of the 22 special stages that will be contested until Sunday.
Among the favorites are the world champion, the Finn Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota Yaris), or Sébastien Ogier (Toyota Yaris), winner of the Portuguese race five times.
