Graeme Souness did not spare Mohamed Salah on Thursday, in his criticism of the player who was involved in an intense 'tiff' with Jurgen Klopp last weekend, when he was preparing to come on in the 2-2 draw between West Ham and Liverpool.

Speaking to Simon Jordan and Troy Deeney on the 'Up Front' podcast, the former manager (who coached Benfica between 1997 and 1999) defended that this was a clear sign that the Egyptian international is "on his way out of Liverpool", probably to Saudi Arabia, where he has suitors.

"He's been fabulous for Liverpool, but if he goes to the Saudi league then he'll be the biggest star in that part of the world. He's got an exceptionally high opinion of himself, there's no doubt about that, and he was annoyed that he wasn't starting," he said.

"I think the situation with Jurgen Klopp was a reaction to the fact that he was only brought on with ten minutes to go. It was more to do with Salah than Klopp, that confrontation. Salah is the most selfish player I've ever seen," he continued.

"Even before that game, whenever Klopp took him off, he was never happy. That's what you want from your players. If you take them off after they've scored one or two goals, they should want to score more. When Sadio Mané was there, they were always having a go at each other," he concluded.
