With a (still) blank season and a change in the management of FC Porto, Sérgio Conceição admits to having thought about leaving. The revelation was made at a press conference this Saturday, in anticipation of the Portuguese Cup final.

"To be honest, it [the possibility] crossed my mind. The Cup game is more important. My future does not depend on any conversation. I am the one who decides my future, period. If my future is to leave FC Porto, it will be with a feeling of immense gratitude and duty fulfilled. I feel that I have lived up to the demands of FC Porto that I am used to. When my father left me, at the age of 15, in front of the Estádio das Antas... At that moment, I had the feeling that everything was immense, I had never left my village. Entering a city like Porto and being in front of a stadium like that was unbelievable. The feeling I have today is exactly that, of duty fulfilled, if I have to leave, because I am the one who will decide", Sérgio began by saying.

Then, he made a retrospective of his work at the helm of the club. "FC Porto has regained the hegemony of Portuguese football in these seven years, because it had four years without winning anything before I got here. In three years of financial fair play, two of pandemic and this very troubled one, with elections, we managed to win as many titles as our two rivals. I always say that, at FC Porto, the contract does not make the coach or the player. If my path and that of FC Porto diverge, I will leave with the same dignity with which I entered", he assured.

He also addressed the issue of the remaining salary, since he renewed with the club at the beginning of May. "If tomorrow is my last game, FC Porto will pay me for tomorrow and I will leave with nothing. This made many people itch. I will leave without taking a penny, they will pay me until the day I work, with the same dignity with which I entered. My signing two days before the elections was much talked about. It was easy, because there is a characteristic that I do not give up, which is gratitude and respect for the person who has a thousand and some titles for the club and for the one who brought me here, at the age of 15. From that moment on, our paths diverge and I do not want a penny from FC Porto", he concluded.
