Cate Blanchett is facing criticism for saying she identifies as middle class, despite having an estimated net worth of $95 million.
The actress, who has amassed her millions thanks to her extensive acting career, was speaking at a United Nations press conference during the Cannes Film Festival when she made the comments.
Asked about her experiences as a UN goodwill ambassador and the need to give refugee filmmakers a platform, she said: "I am white, I am privileged, I am middle class and I think it's really important to acknowledge that I come from a place of incredible privilege and I think it's possible to be accused of having a bit of a white saviour complex, but to be totally honest, my interaction with refugees on the ground has completely changed my perspective on the world."
Her comments about identifying as middle class have sparked some discussion on social media, with some saying: "Middle class? Really Cate Blanchett?" and "I love Cate Blanchett but in what world is she middle class?"
