Vilariça Wild Asparagus Festival sold out this year
The 4th Wild Asparagus Festival, in Santa Comba da Vilariça, Vila Flor municipality, is already sold out this year, a source from the organizing association told Lusa today.

Nuno Bento is part of the Villaricia Association, which aims to promote the Vale da Vilariça, revealed that there are already close to 200 reservations for the event scheduled for May 5th.
"At this time it is no longer possible to make more reservations, we have reached our limit. (...) Every day we receive more calls to see if it is possible to book, but for a long time it has not been possible", shared Nuno Bento.
The majority of the participants to taste asparagus-based dishes come from outside the district of Bragança, with registrants from Porto or Aveiro.
"Many people don't even know what asparagus is, for example. They come to discover what can be made with this product", shared the member of the organization.
From the menu for Sunday, Nuno highlighted the asparagus stew, but there are also omelettes, fritters or bean rice accompanied by the vegetable.
The village of Santa Comba da Vilariça has, according to Nuno Bento, about 380 people. And dozens of residents are committed these days to picking asparagus to ensure that there is enough product for the festival and to contribute to a different day for everyone in the town.
Some of those who will pick asparagus throughout this week belong to Villaricia. Other people just like to pick them and end up helping, offering them to the association.
"We do this event at this time, because it is when wild asparagus is picked and when there is the most of it. Asparagus grows, for example, next to olive groves. As we in Vilariça have a lot of land and our microclimate is favorable, asparagus grows spontaneously. And many people pick it. That's why this festival started", explained Nuno Bento, going back to the beginning of the festival.
