Mauricio Pochettino did not spare his criticism on Sunday of the performance of the refereeing team led by Craig Pawson in the frenetic 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Aston Villa.

One of the most controversial moments of the match took place in stoppage time, when VAR intervened to disallow what would have been a decisive goal by Axel Disasi, for an alleged foul by Benoit Badiashile on Diego Carlos, a former player for FC Porto and Estoril. A decision that, in the opinion of the Blues coach, made no sense.

"Everyone who was watching the game will have been disappointed. The referee said it was a foul and disallowed the goal, and then he went to VAR to confirm it. The referee is unbelievable and ridiculous," he began by saying, in the quick interview area of the British television station TNT Sports.

"It's painful and it has damaged English football. I think the Aston Villa players and fans didn't understand why the goal was disallowed. They said it was a foul, but if they called a foul on every move like that, we wouldn't finish a game with 11 players," he added.
