"Without Pinto da Costa, today he would be the best metalworker in Montijo"
Paulo Futre believes that André Villas-Boas should have "waited for Pinto da Costa to retire to run" for the presidency of FC Porto.

Paulo Futre used social media on Sunday morning to react to the fact that André Villas-Boas has been elected as the new president of FC Porto, putting an end to Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa's 42-year 'reign'.
"Dear Portistas, yesterday, you freely chose a new direction. I respect your decision. You will understand that I am sad today. Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa was the one who bet on a kid who was going to be loaned to Académica de Coimbra and who, three years later, was conquering Europe", began the former Portuguese international.
"I owe him everything. The words to convey the eternal gratitude I feel for him were probably not the best. You know that I have always spoken better on the field. You can ask the Germans, in Vienna. A new chapter begins, with André Villas-Boas. I wish he had waited for Pinto da Costa to retire to run for office and avoid the conflict of these elections", he continued.
"I never doubted that he was a great candidate, and I also have no doubt that he will be a great president. He is the new captain of all Portistas and will have my support, as it could not be otherwise. I end these lines by sending a warm hug to the person who changed my life", he added.
In closing, the former striker left a special word to Pinto da Costa: "Who knows what would have become of me if you had not crossed my path. Most likely, today I would be the best sheet metal worker in Montijo. I would never have enjoyed the great career I had, nor would I have won the European Champions Cup, finalist of the Golden Ball, led the Portuguese national team as captain, been a great idol in the neighboring country, nor would I have met the mother of my children, in the Invicta City".
