According to the announcement, the project to replace the fiber cement coating of the Polytechnic of Leiria school has an execution period of 120 days.

To the Lusa agency, the director of ESECS, Pedro Morouço, explained that the project has a funding of 1.8 million euros, with the remaining amount being supported by the Polytechnic of Leiria.

Pedro Morouço said that the goal is for the work to remove "seven thousand square meters of asbestos" from block A to begin in July, and that during this process "the campus must be completely closed for three weeks".

"After this work, a new assessment of the entire campus will be carried out, for its sale to the Institute of Employment and Professional Training", declared the director of ESECS.

Regarding the new ESECS facilities, which will occupy a 37 thousand square meter plot next to the Leiria Youth Prison Facility (known as the prison-school), Pedro Morouço said he hopes that the public tender will be launched between September and October of this year, with the first phase budgeted at 18 million euros.

In November 2023, this official announced that the design and construction tender for the future ESECS building would be launched by the end of that year.

"It was not launched on time, because the intervention to remove the fiber cement, due to the fall of the Government, did not proceed in the intended time, being postponed for now", justified Pedro Morouço.

Designed to be built between the two woods of the prison-school grounds, the outline of the new ESECS gives priority to green, natural light and accessibility, said Pedro Morouço at the time, adding that the new project foresees a fully glazed building, reflecting "the green surroundings", in order to "cause less visual impact".

The new building will cater to the approximately three thousand students of the school, distributed among undergraduate, master's and higher professional technical courses, he added.
