A mass grave where archaeological experts are working in Víznar (Granada) has been desecrated and has been the target of a "regrettable" robbery.
According to 20 minutes, a jaw with at least eight gold teeth was stolen from the site.
The robbery was committed in grave number 17, a place where ten bodies were found with a gunshot to the head and their hands tied.
The graves in the Víznar ravine are an enclave where the Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the execution of 49 people whose remains were exhumed between 2021 and 2022.
When the team returned to the site on Monday morning, they found that the security perimeter around the graves had been altered. Upon entering, they found that grave number 17 had been desecrated, as one of the bodies was missing its jaw with several gold teeth.
The robbery caused not only sadness and indignation to the relatives, but also hinders the work of identifying the victims.
The Guardia Civil has already been notified about the incident.
