Former Miss Ecuador candidate shot dead in alleged drug trafficker link

A former Miss Ecuador contestant has been shot dead in broad daylight by two men for allegedly being part of a drug gang.
Landy Párraga, 23, was talking to a man at a restaurant in Quevedo on Sunday when two masked men entered and opened fire on the beauty queen.
Landy was rushed to hospital but died from her injuries.
Párraga, who had more than a million followers on social media and her own sportswear line, hit the headlines last December when her name was mentioned in a conversation between drug trafficker Leandro Norero and his accountant, Helive Angulo.
Although the victim's finances were being investigated, the NY Post reports that she was never charged and never commented publicly on the case or her links to Norero and his organisation.
The beauty queen represented the city of Los Rios in the Miss Ecuador pageant in 2022.
