The director of the La Modelo prison in Bogotá, Colombia, was assassinated this Thursday, when the official vehicle in which he was traveling was attacked in the country's capital.
The retired Police Colonel, Élmer Fernández, 58, was shot dead by a group of attackers as he was heading home. In the previous days, he had received death threats in the form of pamphlets.
The announcement of the death was made by the country's Minister of Justice, Néstor Osuna, who in a video shared on X, "regrets having to be the bearer of the news.
According to him, the attack on Élmer Fernández occurred when he was in a vehicle of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (Inpec), on a busy avenue in the capital. The case involved a huge international apparatus (as you can see in the images recorded on site and which you can see above).
